This 80-minute jam-packed show is non-stop entertainment, and tells the true(ish) story of the greatest comedy double act that 'almost' was; Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel (the Laurel of Laurel and Hardy fame).
Accompanied by live music throughout (composed by MOBO Award winning jazz musician Zoe Rahman) this hilarious homage to the silent movie era, and to two young comedians on a voyage of self-discovery, is a guaranteed good night out not to be missed.
From their early days in showbiz sharing a stage, and even sharing a cabin on a voyage to New York, Laurel had always been the stand-in for Chaplin, the legendary comedian who would later become extremely famous. Later, Chaplin remained in the United States while Laurel returned to the UK. After Laurel met his soulmate, Oliver Hardy, the duo became an instant hit, and Laurel also became a legendary figure in the history of comedy. Interestingly, Laurel was not mentioned even once in Chaplin's detailed autobiography, yet Laurel talked about Chaplin throughout his life. What exactly happened between them?
Charlie and Stan tell the unknown little stories between the two comedy masters. Inheriting the essence of their comedy performances, it brings back the masters Chaplin and Laurel on stage. This play is also a timeless and unique tribute to these two actors who contributed significantly to comedy.
